Tax return deadline expires: Return still can be submitted with fines

As the deadline for submission of annual income tax return for 2007-08 expired yesterday, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman has said that there is no scope to increase the time-limit further.
However, the defaulters will have an opportunity to submit it with fines, he said.
As per the law, the defaulters will be able to submit the income tax returns giving one time fine of Tk 1,000 plus Tk 50 for each day beginning today (Monday).
“We’ll trace them out from their accounts (TINs) with us,” NBR chairman Muhammad Abdul Mazid told reporters yesterday, during his visit to the Tax Zone-8. [Read more]
