A judicial magistrate has disposed of 750 criminal cases on average since the separation of the judiciary from the executive on November 1.
Briefing newsmen, Supreme Court spokesman Iktedar Ahmed said the figure is much higher than 275 of the corresponding period of the last year.
He said 242 judicial magistrates presently working across the country have disposed of 33,104 cases out of 5,64,371 during the period.
However, the Supreme Court spokesman could not make it clear whether the judicial magistrates are free from the executive control after the separation of the judiciary. [Read more]
