A week after the severe cyclone, official relief agencies yesterday claimed they have reached the last remaining pockets of devastation. The Armed Forces is at the forefront of the huge aid operation. But, the food supplies are still said to be woefully inadequate.
There is a lack of drinking water and medicine too, causing diarrhoea outbreaks that have reportedly started claiming lives. Officially, the confirmed deaths toll of the disaster has reached nearly 3,500 people. The death figure is set to rise. [Read more]
