Shaheed Noor Hossain Day, commemorating the martyrdom of Noor Hossain on this day in 1987 during the mass struggle against the autocratic regime of HM Ershad will be observed in the country in a befitting manner today.
Jubo League leader Noor Hossain was shot dead at the Zero Point area in the city when he was leading a procession inscribed with ‘Let democracy be free’ on his bare chest and ‘Destroy the autocrat’ on his back.
His martyrdom accelerated the movement, which turned into a mass upsurge in 1990 and forced the autocratic Ershad regime to quit power. [Read more]
