In the wake of mounting sufferings of ordinary people for growing prices of rice in markets, the government is going to launch open market sale (OMS) of rice throughout the country from September 10.
The OMS operation will be launched simultaneously across the country. Not more than 3 kilograms of coarse rice will be sold to a single buyer. The rice will be sold at Tk 19 per kg on every consecutive day. The current average market price of coarse rice is around Tk 24 per kg.
Under the previous OMS programme, rice was sold at Tk 16 per kg, while each person was allowed to buy as much as 5 kgs of rice. [Read more]
