Workers’ strike: Production in UMC Jute Mills stopped

Workers of UMC Jute Mill, the country’s largest jute mill, suspended production for an indefinite period from yesterday demanding their arrear wages.
After a daylong demonstration on the mill gate premises yesterday morning, the agitating workers called an indefinite strike in the afternoon to realise their arrears.
The workers of the UMC Jute Mills under the Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) went for the indefinite strike as the authorities concerned failed to pay their outstanding wages of nine weeks. [Read more]
