The government is mulling over establishment of an independent price-monitoring cell to monitor and analyse the market-trends and also to intervene in the market, if necessity.
The proposed cell might be empowered by law to check profiteering and irresponsible behavior of the market, some officials in the Commerce Ministry said.
The present Caretaker government formed a temporary price-monitoring cell in February, which yielded virtually a zero benefit for the consumers for lack of full time employees in it, the sources concerned said. [Read more]
