A jute mill worker was killed and 72 others, including police and journalists, suffered wounds in a series of clashes between the cops and the jute mill workers here at Sholosahar in the port city yesterday.
Vehicular traffic on Chitagong - Rangamati, Chitagong - Khagrachhari and Chitagong - Hathazari was disrupted for hours together because of the clash. Train shutling between the city and Chitagong University was also halted for several hours.
Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Zahir Ahmed, who was on duty at the police outpost at Chitagong Medical College Hospital, confirmed the death of a mill worker shortly after his admission at the hospital. [Read more]
