Detained Awami League President and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday filed a writ petition before the High Court Division of the Supreme Court challenging the government’s approval to indict her in an extortion charge under the Emergency Powers Rules (EMP).
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a leter of approval dated July 16 to include the case under the EMP. The case was lodged by Noor Ali, a businessman, with Tejgaon Thana on June 13 accusing Sheikh Hasina, her cousin brother Sheikh Helal, now absconding, and his wife Rupa Chowdhury. [Read more]
