The office of the Tax Ombudsman has been remaining virtually ineffective since inception in 2005, the tax ombudsman received only 35 cognizable complaints, out of which 20 were disposed of.
This office has not yet put forward any recommendation against the irregularities the taxpayers have complained about, although it started functioning more than one year ago.
Since the tax ombudsman in the country does not have sufficient workload to justify its existence, the business leaders have requested to review the reasons, as to why the tax ombudsman’s office has not been able to win the public confidence it envisaged at the time of its creation. [Read more]
