Thrust on GO-NGO efforts to attain SDGs

RANGPUR, Apr 30 (BSS): Combined effort of the government and non-government organisations (NGOs) is essential for ensuring successful implementation of uplift activities to attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Development experts expressed the view on Sunday at a discussion meeting organised by Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) on proper coordination of development activities being conducted by different NGOs for backward communities in the city.
City Councilors of all 33 wards, officials of RpCC and different NGOs working in the city attended the event.
With RpCC Chief Executive Officer Akhter Hossain Azad in the chair, Mayor Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu attended the meeting as the chief guest.
Executive Engineer Azam Ali of RpCC, its Chief Medical Officer Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz, representative of Deep Eye Care Foundation AKM Feroz Alam, Coordinator of the CLEAR Project of ESDO Mahbubul Haque, Zonal Manager of TMSS Sanaul Haque, among others, addressed.
Akhter Hossain called the NGO authorities for innovation of effective planning and methods to ensure quality service deliveries to the socially-backward urban people to assist them in attaining sustainable development.
Azam Ali laid more importance on ensuring proper coordination of the NGOs with RpCC authorities and also on following the related rules and regulations while conducting uplift works by the NGOs to further speed up development in the city.
The chief guest emphasised on combined GO-NGO-RpCC efforts to ensure services to the backward people and enhance women participation in uplift activities through creating income generation scopes for building a middle income nation by 2021.
"The NGOs should come forward to work with local government institutions for ensuring smooth development of the socially-backward urban communities for attaining the SDGs by 2030," he added. [Read More]
