Abahani taste maiden defeat in Premier Cricket

Defending champions Dhaka Abahani Limited tasted the first defeat in their 4th match of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League losing to Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by six wickets at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah in the city on Wednesday, reports UNB.
In the day's another league match, Gazi Group Cricketers took a solo lead in the 12-team league with all-win record beating last time runners-up Prime Doleshwar SC by 35 runs at BKSP ground-3 in Savar.
At Fatullah, Dhaka Abahani Limited opened the innings first after winning the toss and scored a moderate 269 runs for all in allocated 50 overs.
National all rounder Mahmudullah Riyad, came to bat in number four, played a captain knock of 62 runs off 66 deliveries, featuring two fours and three sixes, while opener Liton Das also contributed 62 runs off 82 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes.
Besides, lower order Shuvagato Hom ((32), Mohammad Saifuddin (26) and opener Saif Hassan ((19) were the other notable contributors for Abahani.
Tanvir Haider made the major damage in Abahani innings grabbing four wickets for 48 runs in quota 10 overs while captain cum veteran spinner Abdur Razzak and pacer Shahadat Hossain Rajib took two wickets each conceding 48 and 58 runs respectively.
In reply, Sheikh Jamal DC reached their target scoring match-winner 270 runs for the loss of four wickets in 48 overs.
Number six batsman Ziaur Rahman hammered an unbeaten 73 runs off 57 balls with three boundaries and six over boundaries and was adjudged man of the match.
Besides, opener Fazle Mahmud (63), Indian Prasanta Chopra (57) and Nurul Hasan (46) were the other main contributors for Sheikh Jamal DC.
Mohammad Saifuddin, Saqlain Sajib and Mosaddek Hossain took one wicket each giving away 38, 38, and 50 runs respectively. Sent into bat first at BKSP ground-3, Gazi Group Cricketers, riding on a century by top order national batsman Mominul Haque, piled up 307 for all in 48.2 overs, featuring 153 runs in the 3rd wicket stand.
After the dismissal of two openers -Anamul Haque (3) and Jahurul Haque (2) -for nine runs in 4.3 overs, one down Mominul Haque pairing with national all rounder Nasir Hossain added 153 runs in the 3rd wicket and carried the team a total of 162 runs from nine.
Mominul hammered an entertaining 152 runs off 120 deliveries, featuring 16 fours and six sixes to be adjudged man of the match, Nasir Hossain contributed a useful 64 runs off 76 balls, hitting seven fours and one six, while Parvez Rasool of India scored 53 off 54 balls, hitting three sixes.
