Mobile court fines food factory Tk 0.5m for adulteration

A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) fined a food manufacturer in Old Dhaka Tk 0.5 million on Wednesday for producing adulterated food items.
RAB headquarter executive magistrate Sarwoer Alam conducted the drive at Dui Bhai Food Products of Islambag under Chawkbazar thana.
The company used to produce substandard food items, including chips, chanachur and soft drinks powder, without taking any licence from Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).
The unit had no quality control facilities, and it was using industrial dye instead of food-grade colours in the products. The company was also producing counterfeit products of many renowned consumer brands. The law-enforcers seized a huge quantity of such products and packaging materials worth around Tk 3.0 million.
The magistrate sealed the factory during the drive, and imposed fine of Tk 0.5 million on its owner Jamil Hossain, who confessed his wrongdoings. Assistant superintendent of police (ASP) RAB-10 Md Rezaul Karim and BSTI inspector Rashed Al-Mamun were also present during the drive.
