BUILD new trustee board shares plan of activities with PMO

Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD) had a meeting with Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister's  Office (PMO) to discuss how BUILD and PMO can collaborate further  in areas of research, policy and advocacy for private sector development, said a statement.
 BUILD Chairman Syed Nasim Manzur shortly put light on the meeting agenda and also briefed about upcoming and overall activities of the organization.
BUILD Chairman sought attention of the PMO to the 5th Working Committee named Sustainable Business for Growth & Development and why it is important to start working for sustainable business. The Principal Secretary instantly endorsed the committee and said that that Government encourages setting up industries in economic zones not in a residential areas considering the environmental degradation and they will ponder actions to officiate the framework of the committee.  He appreciated the formation of the new committee which will work as a conduit to formalise decisions of the government in a mode of  public private collaboration.
Asif Ibrahim, Advisor to the Trustee Board of BUILD said that BUILD rotates its functions through different working groups co-chaired mostly by the Secretaries of corresponding ministries from the government  and one from the private sector. In this connection, he added  information of other working committees of BUILD as a formalisation of a structured Public Private Dialogue platform.
“We need process simplification and improve our position in cost of doing business and due to stalled regulatory reforms, we cannot lose our position in the ranking of ease of doing business,” the BUILD chairman said.
DCCI President  Hossain Khaled echoing voice of the Chairman of BUILD referred to recent price hike of gas and other utilities causing a serious drawback to the growth of business.
Taking cue from the BUILD chairman in regard to increase competitiveness of business entrepreneurs of Bangladesh, Principal Secretary said, to facilitate business faster,  government is going to launch a one-stop service to provide investors with investment-related services from a single platform through Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and they are making law to enforce the agencies to act accordingly. Once the law is enacted, investors will not face the hassles of going from one office to another for their work and thus cost of doing business will be rationalized.
BUILD CEO Ferdaus Ara Begum informed that  so far 100 plus reforms through PSDPCC has been agreed and implemented and it needs more support from the corresponding wings of the Government to get rid from the regulatory issues.
In this connection, the Principal Secretary said that the Policy Coordination Unit of PMO will engage and inform all related ministries to support BUILD so that it  can invigorate its activities and meet the need of the PSDPCC established and working under PMO. Before 9th PSDPCC meeting, a preparatory meeting  with all the concerned ministries linked with the policy papers presented in the last meeting will be held soon so that implementation of reforms takes places shortly.
