Sylhet UZ livestock offices suffer shortage of manpower

SYLHET, June 29: Services in the district and upazila livestock offices of Sylhet Division are being hampered greatly due to shortage of manpower on different posts for long.
According to sources, out of the total of 448 sanctioned posts, 142 posts have long been lying vacant for long in the district and upazila offices. Of them, 46 posts are vacant at Sunamagnj against 124 sanctioned positions. 24 posts are vacant against the total sanctioned posts of 91 in Habiganj and 25 are vacant against a total of 86 in Moulvibazar.
In Sylhet District, the number of vacant posts is 47 in place of the total 147 sanctioned posts. On the other hand, some officials and employees are working on deputation at other places.
These include, district livestock officer, additional district livestock officer, field workers like union livestock assistant and village livestock assistant, veterinary compounder, lab attendant and office staff. Besides, at least 14 posts of upazila livestock officers have long been lying vacant while the number of vacant posts of veterinary surgeons is 15 in the four districts of the division.
Sylhet Divisional Deputy Director of Livestock Achintya Kumar Shaha said, "The process of new appointments on different post has been going on. We hope some of the vacant posts would be filled soon. However, even on shortage of staff and offcials, we are trying to manage the services at rural level with the limited staff members."
