Poor families of three dists to get VGF rice before Eid

NILPHAMARI, June 29: Ministry of Relief and Rehabilitation has arranged to distribute rice among the vulnerable poor people before the Eid-ul Fitr in Nilphamari district. This initiative of the government like that of the last few years would enable the ultra-poor people to celebrate the Eid.
Sources said Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) is one of the components of so many Social Safety Net (SSN) initiative of the government.
District Relief Office sources said VGF rice would be distributed among 3,84,786 families in this year in the district before the Eid. Each poor family would get 20 kg of rice.
Sources said a total of 7693 tonnes rice would be distributed in the district out of which 1787 tonnes for 15 union parishad (UP) of Sadar Upazila, 873 tonnes for five UP of Syedpur Upazila, 1324 tonnes for 10 UP of Dimla Upazila, 1058 tonnes for 10 UP of Domar Upazila, 1537 tonnes for 11 UP of Jaldhaka Upazila and 1114 tonnes for nine UP of Kishorgonj Upazila.
On the other hand, four municipalities of the district would distribute 278 tonnes of VGF rice out of which Syedpur Municipality would distribute 92 tonnes, Jaldhaka Municipality 61 tonnes, Domar Municipality 30 tonnes and Nilphamari Municipality 95 tonnes.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Tazul Islam said requisite preparations have been taken to distribute the VGF rice in a disciplined way. He said each UP and municipality would distribute 20 kg of rice for each family and they would take necessary steps to do the needful.
Meanwhile, BSS adds: In Bhola, the government has allocated 26,000 tonnes of rice for the distressed and ultra poor people of the district on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme.
District relief and rehabilitation office source said the rice will be distributed to 1,30,438 VGF cardholders of seven upazilas and five pourasabhas in the district.
District Relief and Rehabilitation officer M Abdul Latif said each of the beneficiaries will get 20-kg of rice. Instructions were given to the concerned to distribute the rice smoothly within very short time, he added.
In Chuadanga, the Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management has allocated 2,700 tonnes of rice for distribution among the 54,000 VGF card holders of the district on the occasion of Eid-ul-fitr.
The district relief and disaster management office source said the rice will be distributed among 38,420 card holders in four upazilas and 15,580 card holders in four pourashavas of the district.
Each VGF cardholder will get 20 kilogram rice instead of 10 kilogram like previous years, the source added. [Read More]
