Top 10 cos capture 34pc of DSE turnover

Top ten companies captured 34 per cent turnover value of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Wednesday, while Bangladesh Steel Re-rolling Mills (BSRM) dominated the turnover chart.
According to statistics from the DSE, some 2.56 million shares of BSRM were traded on the day, generating a turnover of Tk 380 million, which was 9.48 per cent of the premier bourse's total turnover.
Each share of the Chittagong-based steel producer closed at Tk 150.9, registering an increase of 9.03 per cent over the previous session.
The company informed Tuesday that a meeting of the board of directors of the company will be held on May 08, at 5pm to consider, among others, un-audited financial statements of the company for the first quarter (Q1) period that ended on March 31, 2016.
Meanwhile, H. Akberali & Co, one of the corporate sponsors of the company, on April 25 expressed its willingness to sell 2.62 million shares of the company at prevailing market price through stock exchange within next 30 working days.
BSRM was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 2015. The engineering sector company belongs to the "A" category.
The sponsor-directors own 57.11 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 4.65 per cent, foreign investors 30.58 per cent and the general public 7.66 per cent as on March 30, 2016.
The company disbursed 5.0 per cent cash and 10 per cent stock dividends for the year that ended on December 31, 2015.
The company has also reported net profit of Tk 827.67 million, basic earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 4.78 and diluted EPS of Tk 4.75, net asset value (NAV) per share of Tk 55.28 and net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) of Tk (10.16) for the year that ended on December 31, 2015 as against Tk 109.09 million, Tk 0.70, Tk 0.68, Tk 54.10 and Tk (5.43) respectively for the year that ended on December 31, 2014.
In 2014, the company distributed 10 per cent cash dividend.
The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1,950.98 million and authorised capital is Tk 5,000 million, while total number of securities is 195,097,717, according to statistics from the DSE.
The company's total market capitalisation stood at Tk 27,879.46 million as on Wednesday.
Linde Bangladesh, a pioneer in industrial gases, was the second-highest turnover leader, with 146,556 shares worth Tk 200 million changing hands on the day. The company's share closed at Tk 1,387, gaining 6.24 per cent over the previous session.
BSRM Steels was the third-highest turnover leader, with some 1.35 million shares of Tk 129 million changing hands. The Chittagong-based steelmaker's share closed at Tk 97, advancing 3.84 per cent.
MJL Bangladesh, a joint venture company, was the fourth-highest turnover leader, with 1.08 million shares worth Tk 114 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 104.3, losing 2.62 per cent over the previous session.
Beximco Pharmaceuticals was the fifth-highest turnover leader, with some 1.27 million shares worth Tk 107 million changing hands. Each share of the company closed at Tk 84.50, gaining 0.36 per cent over the previous session.
United Power Generations and Distribution Company was also included in the top turnover list with some 665,674 shares worth Tk 105 million changed hands, followed by Square Pharmaceuticals Tk 100 million, Far East Knitting and Dyeing Tk 76 million, LankaBangla Finance Tk 74 million and Doreen Power Generations and Systems Tk 71 million.
