14-party to hold rallies in Dhaka, Rajshahi

The ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance will arrange two rallies in Dhaka and Rajshahi, protesting the anti-state conspiracy of BNP-Jamaat alliance and demanding quick execution of war crimes verdicts.

One rally will be held at Central Shaheed Minar premises in Dhaka on May 8 and another in Rajshahi city on May 14. Central leaders of the ruling alliance speak in both progamme.

The decision came at a meeting of the 14-party combine held at AL President’s Dhanmondi political office with the alliance’s spokesman and Health Minister Mohammad Nasim in the chair, said a press release.

At the meeting, the 14-party leaders expressed deep shock at the recent killings in the country’s several places, including Rajshahi University, Dhaka, Comilla and Gopalganj, and demanded exemplary punishment of the culprits following fair investigation.

They strongly condemned what they said ‘propaganda of the evil force’, BNP-Jamaat, against the Prime Minister’s IT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

In fact, the BNP-Jamaat is now engaged in propaganda spreading baseless, fabricated and peculiar stories against Joy to divert people’s attention from their attempt to kill Joy to a different direction, they alleged.

Welcoming the government’s decision to reduce the fuel prices, the alliance leaders demanded the government take initiative immediately to lower transport fares.

Leaders from two factions of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasod) — Shirin Akter, general secretary of Inu-led faction, and Sharif Nurul Ambia, president of the rebel faction — joined the meeting, according to UNB. –RH  [Read More]
