The word hackathon is combined from the words ‘hack’ and ‘marathon’, where hack is used in the sense of exploratory and investigate programming (not as a reference to committing a cybercrime, if you are wondering). It has been described as a problem-focused computer-programming event as well as a contest to pitch, programme and present instances of prototype digital innovation (e.g. a prototype mobile application). They bring together programmers and others (interface designers, graphic designers and others) to collaborate intensively over a short period on software project.
The national competition took place from April 6 to 7, 2016 in Police Staff College (PSC) Convention Hall, Mirpur Dhaka. Around 2,000 participants took part in this competition. The department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) organised this 36-hour long programming contest. The best 10 teams were announced. The State Minister for Information and Communication Technology  Junaid Ahmed handed over the prizes to the winners.
