Coast Guard personnel seized 5,000 kilograms of jatka (hilsa fry less than 10 inches long) from a launch in the Dhaleshwari River in Munshiganj district on Friday.

Coast Guard official Lieutenant Colonel Syed M Kased said a team of coastguards conducted a search in Dhaka-bound launch ‘MV Mahin Rifat’ in the morning and seized 5,000 kilograms of jatka.

Sensing the presence of the team, the owner of the fish managed to flee the scene.

The seized jatka was later distributed among local destitute people and orphanage, according to a news agency.
