Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) informers who secretly report activities of the criminals to law enforcers, are now engaged in internal strife among themselves over conflicts of interest in different localities, highly placed sources have said.

At least 2000 RAB and police informers are working in the capital for gathering information from the field level. Many of them are allegedly involved in extortion and other criminal activities in the city by using their relationship with the law enforcement personnel.

Some vested quarters in the law enforcing agencies are using these informers as extortion collectors from the criminals, mainly the drug and arms peddlers.

The sources alleged that sometimes these informers try to misguide police and the elite force RAB taking the advantage of their relations with them. As a result, at least three innocent people were reportedly killed in crossfire incidents by RAB.

At least ten professional informers of police, RAB and other law intelligence agencies were killed in old part of Dhaka city in last two months, the sources said.

Meanwhile, the special committee, formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs to prove the killing of the three ‘innocent people’, had already submitted its report stating that the victims were innocent and not involved with any criminal activities.
