In light of a High Court order the government has taken initiative for making a policy named ‘Ship Breaking and Dangerous Waste Management Rule’ and amend the existing Environment Conservation Act to allow the ship breaking industry to flourish under a conducive atmosphere.
An inter-ministerial meeting to this end was held in the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) to prepare the policy for the ship breaking industry, flourished in Sitakunda coast of Chittagong in 1980s. [Read more]
