Lentil becomes ‘precious’ as price rises: Per kg of the item sells at Tk 140

The lentil (masur), a common item in limited income people’s daily menu has become ‘precious’ as its price increased by 170 to 175 per cent per kg over the last five years.
Sources said, local variety of this very essential item was sold at Tk 50 per kg and imported ones at Tk 48 per kg in 2005. Per kg of lentil was sold at Tk 50 in January 2006 and it has jumped to Tk 70 in January 2007 and in December it was sold Tk 80. Per kg of lentil was sold at Tk 80 in January 2008. [Read more]
