Onrush of upstream water: Ganges, Brahmaputra basins brace for floods

The overall flood situation in the country has turn alarming and it is likely to deteriorate during the next 2-3 days as the major rivers have continued to rise along with the north eastern rivers, swelled by heavy rains for the past few days, Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) officials said.
Both the Brahmaputra-Jamuna and the Ganges-Padma have been swelled upstream and the north eastern rivers in Sylhet region gone in spate due to heavy rains at home and across the border have also put pressure on the upper Meghna. [Read more]
