HC directive not to place Tarique on remand

High Court yesterday ordered police not to take BNP’s senior joint secretary general and former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s eldest son Tarique Rahman on remand.
Issuing an order, the High Court asked the police to interrogate him at jail gate, if necessary.
At the same time, the High Court stayed the operation of the CMM court order placing Tarique on a one-day police remand for interrogation over an extortion charge.
A division bench comprising Justice Khademul Islam Chowdhury and Justice M Abdul Hye passed the orders, after hearing a writ petition filed on behalf of the detained Tarique Rahman challenging the legality of the remand given by a lower court. [Read more]
