4,000 tons rice sold to Bangladesh withheld at Petrapole

Indian customs authority at Petrapole land port today disallowed export of 4,000 tons of rice sold to Bangladeshi traders at previous price.
Reports from Petrapole land port said Indian exporters had several meetings with the customs officials to secure passage of their consignments to Benapole. They argued that they should be allowed to hounour the sales commitment for which L/Cs opened well before the government raised the minimum export price to US$ 500 per ton effective from December 27.
